stalling

what gives??!!... i just replaced my water pump with a rebuild along with the bypass and lower hose, nothing else has changed, but now when i put my car into gear (auto), it is very cranky and almost stalls! how could this have changed things... i didnt think it could but thats what it happening....any help much appreciated
