Started polishing my intake today

I just finished removing the powder coating and contouring my stock upper intake. Yea, I'm bored and having nothing to do in case you were wondering. I took out all the ribs, seams, and dimples in the intake. It is all one smooth piece now. Tomorrow I'm gonna start with 80 grit to smooth out the spots I ground. Then start with 200 grit on the rest of the intake. After that let the boredom begin!!! I don't have a camera, sorry

i'm going to be doing the same thing some time soon too. i have to find a used intake tho because i dont want any down time on my car. i would rather do it on a explorer intake if i can find one at a wrecker.

try to get some pics tho if you can.

Right now I'm using a cutoff wheel to contour the intake. Any suggestions on what I can use to take out the deep scratches the cutoff wheel makes? I have a 5 piece grinding wheel set. It goes from 46 to 60 grit. I also have sanding wheels from 80 grit to 200 grit. Any suggestions?

depends on how deep the scratches are... If they are deep I'd suggest using a sanding disk to get them out. Good luck with it... it can be a PITA, trust me. You might find yourself starting with something more coarse then 200 grit on your intake or else you'll be doing a lot of sanding. If you ever get a camera, get some pictures.

I remember I tried polishing the lip of my wheels one time, but got so sick of it I let the wheels sit! I know I wasn't doing something right because I worked for hours and didn't get too far! haha

Im about 1/4 quarter way into polishing my stock upper. I gave up. 95stoker, dont waste your time. Sooner or later you will get another intake and you can spend all the time in the world perfecting that one.

I just polished mine, after 240 grit i gave up but it still looks pretty bling, pics will be up when im donw with my supercharger install. then you can see it all at once(polished intake,TB and vortech, YAY!!)

yea, post the pics, I would like to see them. I think my intake is going to be one of a kind though. For 1, it's a stock upper. 2, I took out all the fins off the top close to the throttle body and after the vanity plate. I will also be grinding everything off of the vanity plate as well.

NO! Polish that up and paint inside the grooves... it'll look great that way!

I would think so. Go to discount, autozone, pepboys or whatever store is the closest to you and pick up a can lf 500 degree engine primer and gloss black paint. Should be around $10 total. I just painted the lower on my eddy intake and polished the upper. Is it that noticable? Not really but it does look a lot better and my lower gets dirty easily. So I'd paint my lower, polish up the plate, then paint inside the grooves with it. Heres what my lower looks like.
