Starter heat shields for longtubes?

I'll be putting in BBK longtubes soon, and I've been reading about them killing starter motors.

Summit sells these heat shields (see link), that you velcro-wrap around your starter.

Seem like a simple, economical solution.
Any opinions?

wth todays coatings on headers, you dont need it.
I've never had any issues out of the starter on my car or any of my customers cars. hell, I can't even remember the last time I sold a started for a modular.

also those heat shields that go around the starter will trap heat and that could cause problems.

Interesting. I've had my MAC LT's for over a year and haven't had any problems with the starter as of yet. I think the LT's are actually resting against the starter with no ill effects ::knock on wood:: You should be fine.

get a k-member and you really not have to worry about it . It's been about 3 years now and the starter is still working just fine.

I had BBK LT's (chrome) on my car for just over a year with no problems. I had MAC LT's before the BBK's as well with no problems. You should be fine.

I think most of the posts were from 5.0 guys...maybe it was more of an issue with them. Thanks for the reassurance.

I had BBK ceramic LT's and they burned up my starter in 8mo's. I think there was something wrong with them though because I had a lot of clearance issues .. who knows?

My car with ceramic coated BBK LT never had a starter issue. Starter on our car do not get that close to header.
my LT-1 on other hand...
