ok so i recently got my car to start when it was hot, (stator/dizzy pick-up) but now alot of times i have a problem where i start the motor and the starter keeps trying to start the motor, even when you shut the key off, i have to get out and dissconnect the battery to make it stop...i have replaced the ignition tumbler thing where the key goes in and the switch that is under the steering column, i thought it might be the solenoid on the starter, but it is a new starter, less than 2 months old...i wouldnt think it is that. please help me

if you can, disconnect the solenoid trigger wire (thin wire) when it does this. if the starter continues cranking away, it should be the solenoid sticking.

you can also put a test light on the trigger wire - if it stays illuminated when the key is not turned to 'crank', an interlock device is at fault.

good luck.

is there a starter relay? i dont believe there is one on the 94-95...maybe i am wrong.

there are 2 wires that go to my starter, i thought one was the positive and the other is the ground...there is a trigger wire? what color is it?

thank you for your help so far...

starter solenoid = starter relay (i usually call it the latter as some folks - no one here- dont know what a solenoid is).

LOL, Dave. now i would have felt stupid if you had [facetiously] asked what a relay was (my whole reason for calling the solenoid a relay). LOL.

well i made it do it again, and took the little signal wire off and it kept going, so it is the solenoid, which is weird for 2 reasons...
1. it is a new starter and solenoid
2. i took it off the car and hooked it up to a battery charger, and i couldnt get it to stick for me on the charger on a 12 volt low setting...i tried it like 25 times without it sticking.... then i put the charger to 6v high start (lower voltage) then it did stuck....i put the charger back on 12 volts and it continued to do it every time....i don tknow i am bringing it back and getting a new one.... for reason #2 is why i thought my battery may be not quite strong enough? who knows...
