Alright well I had the car shipped from Texas to Florida. When they started the car (I wasn't there) the starter was running non stop as soon as the ignition turned. The only way to get the starter to stop running was to disconnect the battery, which also made the car die. So they decided to drive the car onto the truck with the starter engaged during this time. When the truck reached my house in Florida the trucker connected the battery to start the car however after about two seconds the gear is gone and now the starter motor just spins freely and the car does not start.

My questions are

1. What could have caused this, a stuck solenoid?
2. Is the starter more than likely the only damaged part or am I looking at a new flywheel also?

TIA for the help guys I'm a little irritated right now

Solenoids often stick. The temporary fix is a sharp smack with a hammer on the bottom of the solenoid.

The other problem is the ignition switch. If it is bad, the solenoid will remain powered even when you let go of the key. Pull the small red/blue wire off the solenoid when it appears to be stuck. If the starter quits running, thr ignition switch is at fault.

Great thanks.

How about the flywheel, do you think it got knackered up?

Start with the cheap stuff

Solenoid.
If necessary check the starter bendix

last the flywheel.
Can be checked when the starter is out.

If you still have a functional CSS or neutral safety switch, this should interupt the signal to the solenoid when the switch is open.

The bendix should have taken the brunt of the wear. You should be able to get a new ring gear pressed onto the flywheel if needed (as I recall the rings are a press-fit and not integral).

Good luck.
