Ok this is wierd, so me and a buddy drove to wal mart and my car started fine. When we get to wal mart we buy some stuff and when we come back out to leave i try to start my car and it just makes a single click noise and nothing else.

My first thought was oh my battery must have died somehow, so i push started my car and we drove it to autozone they tested my battery and said it was fine, no problems at all. So i know its not my battery or my alternator.

My next thought was oh it must have something to do with my old crapped out loose battery terminals. Replaced both and no good. Still the same single click noise.

Now im narrowing it down to a bad starter. I bought a new starter and I have to say ive never replaced a starter on a 99 mustang but im a little intimidated ive heard they are a real pita to replace. Is there a writeup on doing this or can anyone explain to me where it is and how to go about replacing it. Ive heard you have to jack the motor up....

99.9% sure its your starter. Mine car was the same. For the install I dont think you have to jack up the motor. I had someone do mine when it went bad and it didnt take them that long to change it out. Hope that helps out.

the thing is also it could just be a bad connection on the starter... the ground strap could have moved a little and you're getting a bad connection... I also had this happen a few weeks ago... All mine was was the ground strap on the starter... check there first before buying a new/rebuilt one...

Before you install a new starter. Check the ground and connections on your starter!! A little while after i bought my car i started getting hard starts, would take a while then finally turn over. Finally one night it wouldn't start at all. I jacked it up and found out the ground was completely loose on the starter, problem solved.

weird... it seems like the last few (maybe 5) actual posts I've made... right after, someone will make the exact same post in different words...

I guess no one likes my opinion, just my ideas.

It took me like 10 minutes to get mine out...its preety easy. Just that top bolt takes about 2 minutes to get out and need like 2-3 extentions with a swivel. Other than that, its easy as pie

That top bolt intimadates me a bit. but im gonna check the ground first!

Something you can try, if it doesn't start get someone to hold the key to the "start" position then have someone else hit the starter with the hammer or wrench or something. If it turns over then the starter is going bad.

to get the top bolt or any of the harder bolts just get an extension or 2 till its like 2 feet long. start up front by the AC compressor and fish the extension with the socket though the motor mount opening. gotta play with it a little but you can get it. should take at most 15mins to get it out. and remember to disconnect the battery before you do this. sounds like your coil isnt directing any power to the armature.

edit: right mike?
