Starter trouble

New mods have been a problem, and the newest problem is the starter. When i turn the key all i get is an audible click and no start. I replaced the stater itself, the relay and im pretty sure the clutch switch is good. I checked the voltage on the power feed (not the energizer) and it read 12 volts, so it is getting power. Any ideas anyone?

lol, same problem i've been having for a few weeks now.

only thing i haven't checked is the ignition switch--have you?

did you clean your battery terminals? mine would click once then power goes out so i cleaned terminals and it started?
also try charging battery.

I agree - after cleaning the battery terminals, try a jumper battery or charger.

A decent possibility is a lack of motor ground. You can put a jumper cable from the motor to the frame and see if the car starts. If so, but not without the jumper cable, fix and/or add a new ground cable (adding an additional motor ground is always a good idea. I used 4 AWG for mine).

Lastly, if it wont start with a jumper, the battery cables themselves might be rotted. See if they get hot after you try and crank it up.

The clicking indicates your ignition switch and clutch switch are ok.

The other thing i did was try it with a battery i know is good, and the cables themselves for the most part are just about a year old. And the car didnt start when attached to another battery via jumper cables, i cleaned the battery ground but ill try cleaning the motor ground or add another.

Got it running for a couple days, and now its back to not starting. I turn the key to on and it seems like its priming the fuel again, but same audible click and no start. Any possibility it could be the actual key cylinder itself and maybe its bad, i can pull the key out with the car running and the lock on the cylinder is broken, possbility it could be that?

+1 on running a jumper cable from either the engine or one of the starter bolts to the neg terminal on the battery

if it starts right up then you just need to add another ground

if it still clicks i would say you have a bad battery

Take it to a shop and have them see what the alternator is putting out for amps. I just went through this, mine was dumping 75 amps back into the battery because of bad power distribution cables (12 years old), the cable had twisted and basically melted together.

It is possible to have a resistive starter interlock circuit. This generally results in nothing happening when the key is turned or one solid sounding click.

WHen the car acts up, if using a jumper on the solenoid (ensuring the car is in a non-drive gear and the E-brake is on, etc, since you bypass the interlock safety devices) can be revealing. If the car starts while jumping the solenoid (S-terminal to battery power), the interlock circuit is a place to look. If there's an aftermarket alarm with a starter kill relay, that's a great place to look for resistance.

I had the battery checked and it tested good.
