You should post this to 5.0 tech, but I would change the oil to a heavier weight and pray the seals aren't rotted out.

Yeah 5.0 tech! But not only the oil i'd do a full tune up and change ALL the fluids and flush what ya can. Dont forget about doing the fuel tank. You'll prob have to take it out and swish some deisel around in it really good. That should break up all the sludge and rust that has formed in it over the years.Once you do the fuel tank really good i'd prob pull the fuel lines from the carb or fuel rails and cycle the pump to make shure all the sludge and crap are out of them also. Then drive it a couple 100 miles well maybe 200 miles then change the brand new fuel filter to another new one and do all this all over again at the same time. Got any pics of it? It prob wouldnt hurt to squirt some WD40 or mystery oil in the plug holes then turn it over by hand. Will it even turn over by hand? peace

You guys think its smart to try and start it? I mean its been 16 years. Wouldnt you think the motor needs to be torn down? I would think theres rust everywhere in that motor now and if you got it started all that crap is going to score the bearings and bores. The rings may also get chipped or break. Does it even turn over by hand cranking it with a socket wrench?
Prime the oiling system as well if you must go this route.

I moved to the discussion forum.

OP, at minimum I would pour some marvel down each spark plug hole. and change the oil.

as for tearing down the motor due to rust, if its that bad then its going to need to have he crank turned and cylinders punched.
