starting an old motor

are your grounds tight or better yet is there enough power in the batt check the starter .do you have a volt meter

Very, Very good suggestion.

I would so that and turn the motor over but hand a few times to get any deposits gentley removed. Also change the oil and flush out the fuel. Make sure there arn't any critters living in there. You would hate to mouse-lock your engine!

first u need to remove the distributor (properly). when u look down inside the dist hole into the block, you will see the Oil Pump shaft that normaly gets inserted into the end of the Dist. Youll need to get a electric drill, and extensions, and the correct size socket and begin to turn the oil pump shaft using the drill, this is simulating the spinning of the shaft from the cam gear on the dist.. MAKE SURE TO TAPE THE SOCKETS TOGETHER SO YOU DONT DROP IT INTO THE MOTOR. Or you can spend the few $ it costs, and buy an oil pump primer shaft fro summit or your local auto parts store. Its best to remove onve of the valve covers to keep an eye on the oil, once you see the oil being pumped and circulated up into the heads, you should be good. This is for all motors that havnt ran EVER, or have been sitting around for a long time. This is not going to cure your starting problem, onloy protect your internals once the motor has started, bacause most of the oil has been sitting in the pan instead of in the bearings where it should be. turning the motor over by hand is a great idea - use a breaker on the crank and turn it the right way.

when you get ready to actually start it up, if still no go, try a jumper battery (like jump starting). if nothing at all happens, check your ignition interlocks.

Squirt some oil into the cylinders through the spark plug holes before turning the motor over to get some protection on the walls. It will burn off as soon as the motor is cranked.
