Hey guys, havnt been here in a while but now im back. So im driving the car today (its a 95 GT) and it has been running fine. Only unusual thing is that recently when i start it cold it had a small delay before it started up. By that i mean i would turn the key, and there would be silence then about 1-2 seconds later it would start cranking and start up. Tonight however I pulled into a gas station, cut it off, came back out, and it wouldnt start. It cant turn over. It tries to turn over the first time but makes it about half way through and then stops. It is also making a squeaking/whiny sound when i try to start it. I dont know what the problem is. Could it be the starter? Alternator? I am stumped right now. I have ruled out the battery however. I appreciate any and all advice.

Jimmy

Check the connections. How have you ruled out the battery?

Which connections? I ruled out the battery by first trying to have it jumped off, and then having my brother come up who also drives a mustang, and puting his battery in my car. Same problem remained.

It sounds like the car wants to start but cant turn over the first time. It also makes a squeaking sounds while it tries to start. By turn over i mean that womp womp sound it does before it starts every time. It makes it through half a womp, then stops. Im lost.

check for broken, loose or disconnected wiring in starting circuit . inspect all wiring and connectors at battery, starter solenoid and ignition switch. if all connections are tight with no breaks. i would remove starter and have tested at parts store. sounds like solenoid to me.

:Word: the selinoid has been a biotch to me on my car

if all them are fine and the test comes back good i would take the belt off and see if any of the pulleys are locked. my p/s pump locked up and kinda did the same urs is doing also

That is same symptons I was having with the starter on my truck. It will go completely if you don't get it fixed now.

If not mentioned, I would go over all the primary battery connections. One can use a jumper cable in parallel with a given cable and then try starting the car. If the issue subsides, the cable that the jumper is paralleling is likely not up to par.

Dont forget the motor ground, etc (the starter achieves ground via the motor's ability to be grounded).

Good luck.

Ok its woo late for me to test anything tonight, but i did try to pinpoint the squeak and it sounded like it was coming from the power steering/ Ac pump area...I will test the pulleys tommorow and then i guess try to get the starter tested. Where could I go to get the starteer tested?

Thanks for all the help guys...
