when i try to start, it does nothing, doesnt turn or even click like the battery is dead (its not though). however i can start it by turning the key to "on" and taking off the top positive cable to the starter silinoid and taking jumper cables to that and the positive battery terminal. the car acts like im not pushing in the clutch so i think its the starter/ clutch switch (not sure of the technical term). am i correct on this?

This is a new one to me. I have an auto though. The Battery works, but it wont turn over with the key, but you can jump it (sort of) by rigging the battery to the starter manually? Stinger may have the answer to this question.

also i dont think its the ingition switch because when i turn the key to 'start' the amperage guage dips slightly like its functioning properly by closing the starter circuit.

Have you given any thought to the starter solenoid? Check the start terminal on the solenoid for voltage while trying to crank the car. You should see 12 volts when the key is turned to the start position. If the voltage is there, replace the solenoid. If not, go back to the ignition switch and check there for the same thing. If you've got it at the switch, but not the solenoid it's a wiring issue between the two. I can't remember for fact if there's a fusible link on that circuit and I don't have a diagram handy to double check.

Yes there is a fusible link. I'd be checking the solenoid as well.
