Well I was at the hardware store the other day after driving around all afternoon. So I get out to start my car and it kept cranking, but no start. Fuel pump I heard turn on, but I had to keep giving it gas to stay idled. Well even eventually after cranking to much, wasn't getting power from the battery. A fellow stang owner came over and told me he had the same problem with his car and it was the egr valve. That sound like the problem to anybody? Well I finally got the car started and it ran fine after i pumped the gas until it idled alright. So any ideas? Also while starting my car, even before this problem developed my car will crank and crank and crank the first time i turn the key, but won't start. Well i turn the key to off and back on and it will crank once or twice and then turn over fine. ANy idea what that might be?

Im my opnion I dont think it the EGR valve. The idel air control valve is what controls the idel at start up. The IAC lets the engine idel until you hit the gas. If you have ever looked inside the throtal plate you will see there is much way for air to go thru until you open it. Well there is a hole before and after this plate to let air thru. If this valve does not open it will not idle. You can take them both off EGR and the IAC and clean them and make sure they are moving. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

You could pull the vac line off the EGR while cranking to see if it helps, as well as seeing if it looks like the diaphram in the EGR is in the closed position.

I would clean the IAC, as was mentioned. Once you can get it to idle while warm, run the codes.

The multiple key turning before cranking suggests a weak fuel pump. If doing this allows it to start every time, I would look at the fuel delivery system rather than anything else.

Good luck
