when hot my 78 dont kick over all the time if i shut it off i have replaced the starter, starter cable, ground cable. im leaning towards maybe a bad battery or alternator not charging enough. oh yeah the old and new starter just engaged but wouldnt turn the motor. car is a 302 w/ c4 trans pics on link below

motor was rebuilt i never had this problem untill like a year ago from there its just been a problem. timing is backed down to about 12 degrees advance altho the timing never crossed my mind. maybe i have it too far advanced, dads pinto does same thing when hot lately too just the II is far worse cant jump it or anything when it sets for a few hours it will turn over if it dont i can jump it when cooled down.

Where's your battery mounted? If you re-located it to the trunk, you MUST increase the cable size dramatically. Could still be a bad starter. Too often these days we're given these low cost rebuilds/remanufactured starters that are 1/2 the quaility that they should be. If timing doesn't solve the issue, look back at the starter again. :nice:
