put a better running motor in my beater stang and now im having trouble starting it. the solinoid clicks but the starter wont engage. i tried swapping the noid and starter from my other stang and i get the same thing. could it be somthing with the nuetral saefty switch? what should i check? its a 88 5speed

You try jumping it off or charging the battery?
Had the same problem in a truck with 351C and thought the
solienoid had went bad, turned out the battery went dead
cause the belt that turned the alt. had came loose and wasn't
charging the battery, try charging the battery or jumping it off.

Agreed with above. Joe is right about the solenoid. And I like the primary power system checking - battery, battery cables, cable to the solenoid, motor ground, etc.

One can use a jumper cable in parallel with an existing cable. If the car starts with a particular cable being assisted by the jumper, that cable and its connections are a place to look.

Good luck.

In the typical case of Ford no start, I would clean all of the battery cable connections, pos and neg, especially the block end of the grounds. Make sure you have a good body to engine ground.

YOu can also jump across the starter relay terminals if this is an old school starter and relay. ( I just learned mini starters are wired differently yesterday)

If that does not improve it swap batteries. If that does not do it, change the starter.

This is assuming the engine will turn freely.

Every blue moon or so a cable will fail under the insulation at the molded clamp or somehthing, also.

car turns over by jumping solinoid but i get nothign when i use the key
How did you jump the solenoid? By connecting the S-terminal to the battery lug, or by connecting the battery lug to the starter cable?

Good luck.
