Steal throw-out bearing retainer

Hey ppl , im replacing my stock aluminum T5 breaing retainer gonna get me a T5 steal bearing retainer , would this do the job, i want to get it right the 1st time. Is this what im looking for >the steel throw-out bearing sleeve which this 1 has. http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=5916

make sure you put the shim back in the new one

there shouldn't be any shims behind the bearing retainer.

Ok is there some kinda rubber o ring in there or bushing that i Should get also, Cheers ppl !!!

IIRC, mine had a shim behind it, too. It was between the bearing cup and the retainer. It just sorta laid in there between the two.

88mouse you were right i was wrong.

i called my uncle and he said that there is a shim, i was there to help him install his trans i guess i missed part.

yeah you can shim were ever there is a bearing in a t5. That is the only way to get them to handle any power.0 play is what u want.

You can't just pop on a new bearing retainer. You have to set the endplay on the input shaft by shimming it correctly. If you don't do it right, your transmission will fail eventually because of it.

I called D&D performance about the shimming issue and if I should check the endplay. He said "99% of the time they do not need to be checked, so just replace the old shim with the new retainer".

So that is what I did...
