I bought a T5 steel bearing retainer off summit racing here. It is to small to accept the bearing race from the original bearing retainer... The T5 came off of a 4 cylinder t-bird based off the identification number on the tag. Identification pictures attached. Any idea what I have here??? Thanks!!!

Well looks like the car will be sitting on blocks for a while until I can afford to replace it with a V8 T5. I am not putting that POS back in my car. I'd like to find the PO and shove it up his arss....

Makes you wonder what else is substandard.
I'm not gonna defend the po but he could have just got bad advice.

I found a local guy who rebuilds T5s. I was referred to him by a few local guys.

New gear 85-93 T5 is $1100 plus core (will be 90-93 gearset, heavy duty steel main support plate and steel front bearing retainer). Stock rebuild with used gears and no support plate is $800 with core.

Both options "include a full rebuild kit which includes: Synchros(new 1-2, 3-4, and 5th), tapered bearings/races, tail shaft bushing, spacers, shift pads, seals, and misc. small parts

He continues on with "I also replace any gears, sliders, shift forks, shafts, springs, keys, or other parts that show beyond usable wear. I always use a steel bearing retainer. I'm very picky about parts that show much wear at all being reused. I also set the main shaft end play, and main cluster end play to exact specs on the tight side."

I was thinking about tearing down my 4 cylinder T5 myself and rebuilding the components for V8. Based on his pricing, I'm apt to just buy one of his after pricing things out to rebuild/convert mine. I I purchased one, I think I'll go with the new gears and added steel main support plate so I can grow into the trans.

I wouldn't put $1k into a stock build t5.

At that price point, I'd be looking at a 3550 or TKO.
