I have just ran into another problem in the 88 mustang while driving down the road every now and then the low amp light will come on along with the steering and brakes not working properly. The first time I tried to fix this problem my first thought was the belt but it is in place and no wear. So i start looking around at cables and saw that the negative cable to the battery was not tight. So i was like this could possibly be a problem tightened the cable turned the car on and everything was fine drove it for two days no problem till another one hour trip..... towards the end of the trip the when exiting off the highway it happened again. and all cables are tight belt is on and tight. any suggestions

This is strange. It does seem like the belt is slipping or something. I would give your cables and wiring harness another quick check. I would also check your belt tensioner. If it is not holding enough tension, the belt can slip. However, that doesn't explain what's up with your brakes going bad at the same time. This would more indicate the engine cutting out. Try to pull the codes on the computer. Any repair manual has directions if you're not sure how to do it.
