I am in the process of addressing the play in the steering box on my 65 Mustang. I am reading two conflicting suggestions in which
one states "use gear oil", and the other states "Use high Temp Grease"
Where as there is no grease fitting, I am leaning to the Gear oil,
but with the cover removed I can see that grease has been used in the past.
Which one is correct to use.
Thanks

Non power manual steering?
Grease comes on different thicknesses (viscosities). In another car group of similar vintage, their boxes took a mix of grease and STP. Then they found this stuff.

If you use gear oil you will have a Yuge puddle in your garage
Adjust the sector shaft and fill it with grease
Hard to find a new one these days

Grease, gear oil is only for transmissions and rear ends(and in light duty cars not even for transmissions)

Remove one of the top cap bolts and use a grease gun with a needle tip to add grease.
