could be the rack, tie rods or even the front hubs causing issues. I had play but only b/c my d/f hub was bad. Fixed that and the steering is great now.

My car had play in the steering wheel when I bought it. In my case, it turned out to be the steering shaft; it was partly collapsed from what I assume was an unreported fender bender by the previous owner.

Other things to check would be the tie rods, rack, rack bushings, or even the bushing in the firewall that the steering shaft passes through.

I always wanted to resolve this issue, in my case, my steering wheel feels rubbery when the car is warm after long drives, and has tiny bit of play moving the steering wheel to left or right. Everything esle is solid.

i had the same problem.....the play was coming from the rubber rag joint in the steering shaft. Go under the car and check it out.

I replaced the Rack, Bushings and Shaft with OEM Termi stuff...BIG difference

Where can you find a termi steering shaft? I've heard of members getting one for around $50...so far my searches on ebay and ford parts shops haven't turned up anything. I just replaced my rack, bushings, brakes, rotors, wheel bearings and got a bumpsteer kit but it still has a lot of play and some wheel vibration when going normal traffic speed. Could be a bent rim but I wanted to check the steering shaft first. Any ideas where to get the termi shaft?
