Steering Shaft... 4.10'S ... header questions...

I would say a solid steering shaft might help (if you're talking about the shaft hitting the header at the rag joint?) but that's a bit pricey. We've tried grinding some off that off and that helps a lot. What kind of shape are your motor mounts in? That's my problem right now...i never had a rubbing problem but lately my mounts are about shot and the shaft has started to rub..i can't really say on the gears as i've never installed them, but i can tell you 4.10s are fun

If you have never done gears and don't have someone who has experience doing them I would recommend having them done at a shop. If you do not have the correct backlash, pinion depth and so on you can end up with a set of gears that howl and whine. If your bearings are in good shape then you should be able to reuse them.

One other thing on the steering shaft. I believe that I saw somewhere on here that you can actually loosen a couple of bolts in the interior and shift the steering column and shaft a little bit. You might want to do a search on it and see what you can find.

I am pretty much the same about working on my car as you. The only thing that someone else has done is the gears and charge my AC system.

If you do want to do it yourself get a set of FRPP gears. When I was reading up on doing the gears myself that is what was recommended to me. You will need a something to press the pinion gear off with and to press it back on. There are some pretty good write ups on gear installs on the net and some links on here if you do a search.
