Stock 1/4 Mile Time?

Back in the early 90's, my old hatch (driven by the former owner) ran 14.2's with timing/cat-back and road race suspension on street tires.

Our 14.2 was bone stock, some crappy street tires (probably worse than stock) and absolutely nothing taken out. Also was a 2.73 car, could have been faster with 3.08s I assume.

Wonder where the dizzy was at during the pass/conditions.

It's not that I'm saying it didn't happen as its not a strectch, but it not likely of the norm at all.

Def not, my 89 with an AOD went 15.3 @ that track. The dist. was at 10 degrees or whatever it was stock (I was 14 or so, don't remember exactly). Car was 100% untouched down to the silencer when run the first few times.

i agree 100% with the statement it's not the norm. i've got a good friend with lx hatchback, edelbrock performer II intake, b cam, 3.90 g's, msd ignition(coil, distributor, plug wires, etc.), cai, weld rims, and a few other things and he can only muster 8.9's and 9.0's all day in the 1/8th. i've seen plenty of modded stangs barely getting in the mid to upper 14's. sometimes it has alot to do with the driver i would guess . got a few of my slips, but this was my best, and once again only with weld rims, off road h pipe and flo's.

How many of you really take weather conditions into account when you're racing? I heard of guys who are so hardcore about it they have barometers in their racecar trailers. If it's humid out, real hot etc, you're going to lose ET. Sea level has a lot to do with air quality as well. I'd even go so far as to believe air pollution has a bit to do with it...say if there's a racetrack in NJ vs. a track out in the country. A lot of times, people also blame the car when it's really the driver. I'm a good driver but i know for a fact my buddy is better than i am..he's just had more time behind the wheel. Every time he drives my car he gets at least a 10th quicker than i do because his 60s are lower than mine.

Still learning the feel of the 1/4 mile, I ran 14.41 @ 98.20 with a 2.28 60'. This was bone stock, full exhaust and 3.73's...and some serious need to practice getting out of the hole.

I got a best of 13.08 at 106 with my 1987 no option coupe. Not exactly stock had exhaust ,cobra intake,tb,ram air,k&n,bumped timing. Stock gears cold night slicks 5000 rpm launch pedal to the metal powershifting.

couldn't have said it any better, it all has to figure into the equation of et's. humidity, temp., and like you said, experience of the driver. i'm on my 3rd and 4th mustangs and all have been manual tranny's over the last 16 years, so i've had a little seat time. not a pro, just saying it does help.

Yeah, i'm on my third Mustang, my buddy has literally had 20+. We're the same age but he goes through cars like most people change underwear.

When I was there, in 1988/89, My LX 5.0 hatch and the others like mine, that were stock, could muster mid 14's on the VR's. Gatorbacks sucked bigtime. Trick was to not heat em, burnouts didn't help them at all. Practice was a must, rookies could never get out of the gate, you had to feather the gas lots out of the hole. Stock notch's did not go any faster, my brothers included. Not at the tracks I was standing/racing at, anyhow, no traction, in stock form. Those damn Grand Nationals, though...still having nightmares. Around 1990/91, when they started rolling up the miles, turbo oil seals started going away, and you saw less and less.

speaking of the "devil's", my buddy has a grand national. he's turned it up a little more than stock now, but those car's were the heat back in the day.

Anyone been into Mustangs long enough to remember the Grand National/Mustang shootouts? All the 'stang mags covered the races. It was a heated rivalry back in the day.

found my bone stock slip for my 95....it went 14.9@93 w/ 2.1 60' with the AODE....stock timing and air silencer still installed...bumped timing and removed silencer it went 14.7@94 w/ 2.2 60' did 5 speed swap catback, h-pipe it went 13.9@100.5 on 2.3 60' put dr's on and it went 13.5@99

1990 lx with headers,bassani x-pipe, flowmasters, cai, auto went 15.3. put in 373`s, transgo shift kit, pulleys and dropped a second to 14.3. I was hoping for 13.99. also had drag radials.

I have a question about my 5.0. I have a 1993 mustang Gt convertible with a stock AOD. I have offroad 2.5 inch x-pipes, flowmasters, MSD cap and rotor, bosch +4 platinum spark plugs, ford racing 9mm ignition wires, Pro-M 75mm mass air, K&N filter, smog delete, air silencer delete, stock 3.27 gears with trac-lock, and 65mm throttle body and EGR kit. What do you people think my quarter mile time in 70 degree dry weather will be, running in regular Drive not Over Drive?:Track:

100% stock 1987 GT 5 speed with 84k (just after I bought it).

14.6@96.5 backed up by a second run of the same numbers at Epping NH.
