After patiently searching for a stock 5.0, I've come to the conculsion that there are really very few out there for sale at reasonable prices. I'm talking non-cobra, non-saleen, non-feature car stuff in the mid teens!! Does anyone really buy these cars, or are the owners looking for a sucker with a fat wallet to come along?

If I was looking for a well beaten, over 100k mi car, the sky is the limit, no shortage of yahoos destroying mustangs around here with obnoxious mods. Maybe someone should start buying these and start a museum for redneck hotrods?

Anyway, I've discovered a 89 gt vert w/40kmi, all stock for just under $7k. I'm planning on going to see it soon and was interested in folks opinions on pricing. It's an automatic with leather. (I'd prefer the 5speed, but haven't found any.)

Be more patient. I looked for a month and a half before I made the plunge. Their was an 86 vert 5speed in my neck of the woods for 5500 bux with 60,XXX miles on it. Bone stock. That is a steal and I almost bought it but I wanted something to mod and flog on and I couldnt bring myself to do that to this immaculate of a Mustang.

If you are prepared to drive a few hours you can probably find one. I would be prepared to spend at least 6-7k for a car in the condition you are talking about.

I'd buy this one if I had the room for it. Original adult owner, bone stock and black on black. He's been steadily dropping the price for about 4 months.

I think most of these guys are in denial about what their car is worth. My 95 has a boat load of mods on it and is pretty clean. IF I had to replace it and the parts on it, it would cost well over 15K. But, if I had to sell it right now, I would probably be lucky to get half that.

That being said, be patient and I am sure you will find what you are looking for in the 5K range.

It took me about 4 months to find a decent one. Check craig's list in Akron and Pittsburgh also, there were a ton of them for sale last summer, I'm sure in the next month or two more and more will be popping up on there once the weather finally turns warmer. Just depends on what you are looking for though, its pretty tough to find a low mileage original condition foxbody at a "good" price.

I'll keep looking. Here is a link to one not too far away, it has 83k miles on it. Similar looking to that sweet one in Seattle. It caught my eye.

Looks nice and clean, but I think it is still a bit high in price. I would say maybe 4500-5000, but that is just me.

Private party Blue book on the car alone is about 3000 in excellent condition. Plus a couple thousand for the mods.

Compromise you will have to do or you're going to do a lot of searching and/or pay a lot of money. Also, things are not always as they appear. I wanted a LX 5.0 with a 5-speed. Well I got my 88GT auto for $3500 and I feel I got a good deal even though it has 184K miles on it. One owner adult driven for over 20 years, bone stock, and maintenance records from back when it was new. Yes, manual windows and mirrors with an auto on a GT from the factory. The original owner custom ordered it that way. I looked and looked to see what was out there. Some cars on autotrader and craigslist looked great until I actually got there. For one thing there are a lot of car flippers that are trying to sell these cars. They pick up piles of junk, and try to resell them at obnoxious prices. A lot of times they pick them up broken and "fix" them but their shade tree ways mean the car will be broken in no time. If you see in the ad, "this car is my baby, I hate to sell her" that is a car flipper.

I agree with you on the patience thing. The good news is it's not like I don't have other Mustangs, just trying to scratch the fox body itch.

As for the flippers, but for it being a waste of my time, it's almost entertaining. Usually you can tell by the guy's garage and if he knows every square inch of the car and points our flaws I didn't notice (stone chips in the lower spoiler, rub mark on the seat belt, real minor stuff) how serious he is about the car. If he's like, "hey man, this is really fast car, blah blah, just had the whole thing repainted, blah blah," I'm very weary.

I think I'd like to find a fox with a completely tricked out MM suspension to take autocrossing and road-racing. To completely modify a fox with MM parts takes a pretty penny.

Hehe, this sounds like my message to you!

Just keep looking and be patiant, you'll know when you find the right one. I looked for about 3 months when I bought my 89 back in 2003, I viewed 9 cars before I found what I was looking for and to be honest it just fell into my lap. As for the 88 'vert, I wasn"t looking for another car but ran across it and it was a nice car that needed some love and the guys price was cheap so I bought it!

dont listen to these guys, Make a quick non reaserched decision. If something about the add catches your eye Boom jump on it. You never know if your going to be alive tom.

You know, that's probably the best advice. I'll post a WTB ad on Craig's list and say something like, "I've got a box of $100 bills on my front porch, please drop off your car and take as much money as you feel it's worth and leave the keys and a notorized title under the welcome mat."

Better yet, I'll use my neighbor's address to see what shows up!!

Fox Mustangs are price varies for where you are located, I noticed they are quite high around here for a decent one.

Price Check in Aisle 85 GT Vert

I noticed a lack of 85's for sale, but stumbled across one with 80k miles, leather interior, all stock except for the radio. 5 Speed with all the options (windows/locks/cruise/tilt/ AC, etc.) Never been in the snow, very clean. What would this bring versus a 87 and newer? Will be seeing it in person in a week.

A couple of notes about 85's: Carb'd, not injected. A little less factory horsepower than the later cars. 7.5 rear end vs. the 8.8's on later cars. Smaller brakes than the later cars.
