Just saw an 87 ASC Mcclaren fox sell for $7,500 on Barrett Jackson. Beautiful vert, all kept factory. They said it had one flaw in the paint on the drivers door but didn't show it. Everything else looked immaculate.

Even the announcers spoke about how the fox cars just don't demand/keep a lot of value. Saw that and thought about this thread.

We bought an 85 Saleen for my wife for a "fun" car a couple of years ago. She never drove it because fuel injection had spoiled her with the get in, start it and drive situation. She didn't like having to wait a couple of minutes to warm up. We ended up selling it for great money, but it is a really rare car in near showroom condition. Most of the four-eyed cars I see around here are pretty well thrashed.

I watched that one today also. It was a nice white one, but day 1 is entry level stuff and the "FOX" hasn't reached collector status by any means yet to some of the big players. That car was pretty mint for the price, proof that fox lovers really find the value in them and drool over low mileage GTs. I would bet the only "FOX" that would do reasonably really well at jackson would be a '93R or a really low build # '93 Cobra.

I picked up a 100% original '88 LX for $5,500.00. Deals are out there. Would I pay 10k for it? Absolutely not. Now the car is full of tasteful mods.

There is a guy here in town with a silver 88 ASC that is very nice that would not even consider 7500 for it, it depends on how bad the seller wants to sell and how bad the buyer wants it.

That reminds me, i promised Lynn some pics of the McClaren capri that is down the street. Owner of it is a local business man thats busier than a cat covering poo and i never can catch him.

Fox cars, currently speaking, aren't a big deal rolling across a BJ auction block. People are there to buy serious collectables, not Fox Mustangs which are still all over CL's in various shapes.

However, what people fail to realize is, for a Fox, BB value is absolute garbage---as in it means nothing. Fox's be-it speculatively assessed or not, are becoming harder and harder to find for a properly built unit, or if it is lower miles, one owner, they are going for 8-10 depending on color or body style and overall location.

Why? Why don't owner's GFO?

Simple. Most owners have had these cars loooooooooooong paid for and most that are tastefully done, or are bone stock original, know how much harder it is to find one in the condition they own and also, they are not being forced to sell. In otherwords, no screaming deal for you.

But your counter is that you could go buy a new edge or higher mileage s-197...so what, the argument means nothing to a clean Fox owner. Go buy your common as bowel movements generations and see which brings more attention at a local car event, a rediculously clean Fox or a new edge or S-197.

Bottom line is the last Fox rolled off the line 18 years ago. No excuses gentlemen, but a style that is going on 20 years old, isn't as easy to find as one would soon come to realize; patience or not.

1986 Foxes can now apply for antique vehicle plates in most states. That should tell you something right there.

That is great...

I've been watching the Fox market like a hawk for the last five years. It wasn't until about two years ago this sudden spark arose where the truly clean ones started to shine.

This certainly doesn't mean that there aren't needles-in-the-hay-stack to be found, as some have reported on here, but for the average consumer, who doesn't have that next-of-kin/word-of-mouth hook up, you might as well go buy a newer 'Stang.

Look down the line, what car stands out to you amongst the 'Stangs?
