The only real mods for the airbox work on all 96-04 Mustangs. You can trim or remove the rubber silencer.

I thought one would not want to start to suck up any of the hot engine compartment air, air that has been heated by passing through the radiator first. The rubber silencer helps ensure that the air box is drawing all its intake from the cooler air available in the fender.

the first time i said i was going to hit 12's i broke the rear end and then the last time(about a month ago) i blew out my third gear synchro. but sunday morning is looking good. Gutting the car to get it to a svelte(sp?) 3500lbs race weight

I did the stock airbox mod too. I threw it in the trash and replaced it with a fenderwell CAI.

Use a C&L truefit pipe.

I agree. Leave the car stock, or get a C&L pipe. I like the looks of the C&L pipe, so that is what is on my car.

Plus, I like being able to use a paper filter. I'm not huge on the K&N drop-in. It just doesn't seem to work any better than paper to me.

I am going to put my stock air silencer back in as well. I agree that it sucks in the cold air from the fenderwell instead of warmer air from nearer the engine.

The more I think about my car and the mods I've done to it, the more I wish I'd left it stock. I see a lot of things Ford did for a reason after I change stuff.

Except... I would still put in the 4.10s, plus add different exhaust tips, at least.
