Does anyone know the diameter of the stock drive shaft on a 1994, ....
the reason i ask is my stock drive shaft hits my exhaust and i want to upgrade to the frpp aluminum, I know the frpp is a 3.5 inch diameter?? right?? and just wanted to see if my stock was the same size Cu's i dont want the aluminum one to get chewed up spinning against my exhaust.. it only does it when the car "squats" Ive taken to the exhaust shop 3 times...no fix..any ideas how to solve this

I got a vibration after i put my gears in thats why i want the frpp one

IIRC the aluminum DS has a slighly larger diameter. Short of going under the car I can't confirm but I am thinking it's closer to 4".

It's gotta be on the smaller side of that estimate, because there's no way they have the same diameter, the FRPP piece is noticeably larger.

Oh and, you need to adjust that exhaust dude, it shouldn't be hitting it at all

The Aluminum one is bigger. Friend of mine had to switch T5s out of eachothers cars and I have the FRPP and he has the stocker and It was a decent amount bigger. Looked about an inch bigger or so. For sure bigger.

Im curious on the fix for the driveshaft rub too. 3 of my buddies with 94-95s scrape with more than 1 person in the car.... They all have stock driveshafts. Mine has NEVER scrapped and I have the FRPP. However, they all have weld in flow masters and I have Full Bassani.....

Good luck man.

Yeah it prob is a bit smaller. My FRPP ds seemed a bit bigger. It was dark, 20 degrees out, and I just made a rough measurement with a ruler though.

My stock is the same OD as my FRPP... Both 3.5" diameter...

As for the exhaust, try rotating the offending muffler/tailpipe.

What exacerbated this on my car were bad control arm bushings and the gears exacerbated it even more...

IIRC both my stock and al. driveshafts were close to the same diameter, maybe 1/4" difference between both, at most. My annoying rubbing issue was caused by a missing pinion snubber and horribly worn-out upper and lower CA bushings which allowed the pinion more room to swing upwards causing the DS to hit the floor. I'd recommend checking the state of the pinion snubber and upgrading CA's if they are stock. The DS shouldn't even come close to the exhaust. are you sure it is not rubbing the parking-brake cables?

I've measured both the stock DS and the FRPP aluminium DS side by side, and both are 3.5" in diameter but the aluminium DS is 9lb lighter (11lb v 20lb).

I don't know, I'm calling BS on those that say its the same size. I dont care if I have to eat crow when proven wrong, I would welcome that actually.

Someone please measure the circumference of the DS, because that will give a more accurate # than trying to eyeball the diameter. The stocker should be 10.99" or less.

If there is a difference it is minimal. I used a tape measure when I got my alum and both were ~3.5".

Are you refuting the alum diameter or the stock steel?

I'm with SN95stangman. The FRPP DS is larger than OEM or was when I bought mine in 2004. I may just have to crawl under the car tonight to measure the circumference of the aluminum one.

I'm refuting the stock size.

Even a 1/4" will be more than "minimal" if the OP already has rubbing issues with the stock driveshaft.

I measured the circumference of both driveshafts (11") and divided the numbers by pi (3.1415926) to get the diameter.
