I am not going to conjecture what might be wrong . . just give you a couple of simple tests that will help pinpoint likely causes or eliminate others.

While stopped, if you rev the engine to 1500 RPM in Neutral, do you feel any change in the temperature of the air blowing from the dash vents?
If you coast down a long hill with the engine idling in Neutral, does the A/C begin to blow warmer air just as if you had stopped?

First of all, it's R-134a, not R-13a.

Second of all, the molecules of R-134a are smaller than the R-12 molecules, which is why you should replace any rubber lines with updated pieces on some retrofits. The rubber used with R-12 has larger pores and allows the R-134a to escape easier. This is the ONLY time freon would leak without a failure in a more recent automotive application.

Third, freon doesn't just leak. There is ALWAYS a failure that causes the leak. Does your radiator leak "no matter what"? No, they are sealed systems and only leak when there is a failure. Same thing with any of the fluids.

Last, please stop giving bad advice when it is clear that you don't know what you are talking about. There is NOTHING wrong with his compressor clutch as it disengages and re-engages fine as tested through the low pressure cycling switch. You could cause him to spend $1k+ on a compressor job that he may not need.

To the OP, if you can, please get a good set of gauges hooked up to it. Then report back to us with the static pressure and the running pressures (high and low side). This will help us determine what your next step is.

Ummm?! Right? If he will spend a grand on fixing a compressor then thats a great joke, compressors don't cost a grand,600 maybe for a conversion kit, maybe. Wow, Mr. Wizard wants to challenge me in science, my little a/c tech, didn't know you would get pissed on a typo. O.k. maybe the man wants to buy a new compressor, as they do go bad, second it would be great experience to change one, he will be smarter for the experience, hmmm!? Its not a major problem, the car is still drivable, and he can get system recharged for free. Sounds like someone is overly pissed, now if you don't like my advice, you don't have to read it, very simple huh? Its just an opinion, a free opinion, if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong, grow up, its not the end of the world Mr. Techy, I call B.s. freon does just leak, nothing is completely air tight, and yes every radiator leaks, its called, whats that word, EVAPORATION. Darn Mr.Tech, thought you knew. EVERY THING LEAKS, no matter the appliation, sorry didn't know I had to get technical, on molecules, I can go there if you want. My goknads are big enough!! I don't know the specifics of his problem but, I like to work on cars, so if I have a chance to completely change out a system, then damnit I am going to provided that I can afford it and my car is drivable. Freakin EGOS. Let it go.
I hope you get your car fixed, a/c makes for a happy mustang driver!Stangnet

Not everyone is made of gold Mr Moneybags. If he wanted to spend a ton of money on it, I'm sure he would have taken the car to a shop to rake him over the coals. I just don't see any sense in telling him to spend money that he may not have to.

If you want to replace a compressor just for fun, you go right ahead. I'm trying to help this guy CORRECTLY diagnose his issue and hopefully save him a little money at the same time. This isn't about my ego.

Yea, ok, sure! :OT: a little bit anyway. If you don't love it its not worth having, huh? O.k. not everybody has a love for cars and take my approach, but hes got to have it discharged and recharged anyway even if it was operating perfectly, that would be the safe way to do it,why let it go on the fritz, just some preventitive maintenance, to eliminate some ideas, I would have save and salivate at the chance to replace something like that just to say I did it and did it right. What ever, take it down a notch, hes going to do what ever he wants anyway. Its just my approach to things thats all, no offense and hope none is taken. Stangnet

A/C does not get colder holding the idle up while parked, As for the hill test.....I live in Florida.

Get your system checked there are to many reasons why this could happen. I do not think a system check would be all that expensive
