So out of the blue a couple of weeks ago, my 06 GT with a JLTII CAI + Brenspeed tune just died pulling out of a parking spot. Just stumbled a bit, then died. Tried starting it and it acted like a car that was flooded. Would crank the motor, trip like it wanted to start, then would just die. Repeat.

Had it towed to the dealer. They checked everything and found that the battery was in really bad shape and said that it wasn't turning the motor fast enough to get it to start and was just dumping fuel into the cylinders. Whatever. They said that it spit out a bunch of fuel when it started after a new battery was put in.

So it was running fine all last week, then on Saturday I went to start it up and it did the same thing. Acted like it was trying to start, stumbled for a few seconds and died. I didn't have time to screw with it then, so I took my truck. Fast forward to Sunday. I put a meter on the battery to make sure that it still had a good charge and it read 12.47 volts. Battery good. Just for poops and giggles I tried to start it and it started right up, and has been running fine ever since.

So I suspect that something else is going on other than the battery (duh). I don't think the JLTII or Brenspeed tune has anything to do with it as I've been running that for well over a year now. I know the filter needs to be cleaned, but I don't think that would do it.

So anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

There had to be a lot of fuel in the motor to come out the tailpipes. Calling BS on the dealers statement.

I have no good ideas to float to you on a possible fix. Maybe someone else does.

Loose CAI at the throttle body? CLogged air filter? Sounds like it's struggling to breathe.

Ok, I think I'll just order another JLTII filter and just replace it as I don't have time to clean mine right now. That is actually why mine is all dirty anyway, time. Infants have a neat way of sucking any and all free time away from you. lol

I got my JLTII and tune from Brenspeed, anyone know of the best/economical place to get replacement filter or does it not really matter? I think Brenspeed wants ~50.00 for it.

Autozone, Pep, O'Reilly's. They may have one. Probably K&N, but I think if it's the right size, you might as well pick it up and put it on at home. If that doesn't work, you can take it back.

Just get a K&N cleaning kit ($10.) at Autozone.
Clean and reoil. Let it dry for a couple of hours after you clean it , then
apply the oil and install.

I did that with the K&N in my truck, problem is that it took a whole day for it to dry enough to put the oil on. I ordered the new filter from Brenspeed. This way I'll always have a clean spare to quickly swap out with.

edit: I really hope that the problem is a dirty filter. Otherwise I have no clue what the problem is. CEL isn't on, so I assume reading codes wont help.

Yeah, it takes a day to dry out. I didn't think about that. I bought a K&N the day after I bought my car and kept the stock Fram. When I did the cleaning, I just swapped to the stocker for a day.

I do mine in the summer when its 105 degrees in the sun.
But you do want it totaly dry. Plus you need to let the oil dry and spread out evenly
after aplication, at least 1 or 2 hours before you actually start the car to avoid getting
oil mist on the MAF.

Sounds like a TPS issue. Have you checked for codes? If it happens again, hold the gas pedal to the floor. That shuts off the fuel completely, when it starts you may need to finesse the pedal to keep it running at first.

I would also suggest checking all your major grounds making sure there is good clean metal to metal contact.
