A few days ago, my '99 GT barely started, but I figured I was just being critical, as I've never had a problem with it before.

Today, it started up confidently in the morning, showing no warning signs. After my last class today, I started the car to go home, it almost started, but it faded, and shut off. I attempted to start several more times, but the engine just wouldn't fire up.

Finally I figured I'd give it a little gas as I started, and the engine roared, but as soon as I took my foot off the gas, it shut off. I waited about 10 min. and tried it again, and I just got a starting noise followed by grinding.

I called my mom for help, she arrived within an hour, and she started it the first time, leaving me clueless. She joked around "Did you turn the key?"

Brand new battery purchased a few months ago, alternator checked OK. After this issue tonight, I had the alternator and battery checked again, both turned out to be perfect.

Any clue what could be the problem? Your help would be appreciated and hopefully restore the confidence I've had with this car.

you know the same thing happend tp my 99 gt like 6 months ago. I thought it was the fuel pump then when i took it to ford they said it was maybe the fuel pump or the fuel pressure regulator. They did a system diagnosis which cost me 96 bucks they told my battery cell was dead although the battery was ok one of the cells were bad. Be for you do anything drastic just go to walmart buy a battery stick it in there and then take the old one back with the reciept and get the refound. The best part is you got a new battery for free an d maybe your problem will be solved but that is exaactly what happend to me i got all parnoid over nothing my dad said check the battery and i said no it cant be so it took me 96 bucks to realize i was making a big issue over nothing. But now my ac compression pump keeps going out and i cant figure out why. lol peace

IAC valve/sensor? Check your vacuum lines, under hood while engine running.
