Hello, I'm the "janitor" from Cars Illustrated Magazine and I wanted to share this STREET STOMPER article to give all the FOX guys a chance to check out what we are doing and to submit their car (if you want) to be featured in out Street Stomper section. Cars Illustrated was instrumental in starting the 5.0 movement back in the 80's and we love them now as much as we did then....enjoy and hope to hear from you guy soon - the Janitor

Who: Stephen Barnett sbss2-300x173.jpg

What: 1990 Ford Mustang

Where: Magnolia, Texas

Starting life as a roller out of Joplin Missouri in 2004 – Stephen Barnett’s had the hope most of us share. One day, stare at a serious race car sitting in the garage that is “all mine” and the story of this 1990 Fox body is no different.

At first it was the standard story of upgrades, stock 351w sporting a set of Trick Flow Heads, Ford Motorsports e303 camshaft and a received_918162101542893-300x199.jpe little help from Nitrous Outlets, had the Mustang turning 11.4s on the motor and squeezing out 10.1s on the bottle…but enter the reoccurring story-line within the chronicles of the Cars Illustrated Street Stompers….Stephen wanted to go faster.

Stephen had been tearing up tracks all across Texas for a while and was doing quite well in True 10.5. But it was the drag radial scene that was blowing up so he and his team decided to try their luck with radials and that was where they found their niche. Their hard work and efforts to sort the car out led them to success in X275, but in 2013 they headed full steam into the Ultra Street Class and it proved to be a combination for success and earning himself a championship.

But back to….Stephen wanted to go faster.

Winning always comes with sacrifice and victories, but pushing the engine can also lead to problems and hurt performance. So Stephen decided to change his engine 20160610_103809-272x300.jpg programs and hasn’t looked back since. Turning to Jeff Naiser at NRC Components, Stephen has won multiple Drag Radial Races and a 2013 Ultra Street Class Championship and is currently running a class in Texas called Limited 275 where they run 275/60 Drag Radial Tire.

The first Limited 275 race out in 2015 he took the win and set the record in the class at the Turbo Bullet Nationals with a 4.841 and went on to progress to multiple finals. Currently running the Nitrous OutletStinger III system Stephen is making moves in the Limited 275 class and have won both races so far this year and have gone as fast as 4.78 @ 150mph

Also in 2015 Stephen was the class record holders with a 4.841@144 1/8th-mile, scoring both a win and a runner up. So far in 2016 they have won both Limited 275 races and have been 4.78@147 with a couple more races coming up for 2016 they have our sights set on winning and also claiming a class Championship.

We’d say they have a good chance…

I'm up in Oregon - the car IS out of Texas....and yes, the BBC is not "Ford enough" for some, but you can't deny dollars to horsepower. BBF will make the big power, but at a larger expense.
