Stud Mount vs. Ped. Mount

Studs are a bit stronger and more stable.

Another thing I like about them is ... ease and flexability when adjusting valve train.

Down side to em is they are more costly with guide plates and hpr's.
but worth it IMHO!

Studs are stronger and easier to adjust the lash on. Ever tried adjusting lash on pedestal mounts? You gotta use shims, huge PITA. The only downside is the neccessity of guideplates, which then require hardened pushrods. But they are SO worth it if you are installing them yourself.

it's a real pita to machine the heads right. they have to take off some material on the mount pads, drill out the holes, and tap larger holes for the studs. taking of the material is to accomdate the increased install height of the guid plates and studs. if you don't plan on spinning your motor over 6k, save your money. just my .02

urban beat me too it, but do you really want to sink all that money into some P-heads. use your stock rockers, and save up for some nice alum heads with studs already in them.

i'm just sayin it'll prolly cost you about $600 after parts and labor to convert your heads to stud mount. sell those P's and use that 600 to buy some used stud mount alum heads and rockers.

but yeah, if you are spinning over 6k stud mount is pretty much a requirement.

Everybody try to remember this as it will help later on when you think about this subject.

All Ford 5.0 OEM Iron Heads are set up for ped rr's. :D

Its a cheap way to turn em out and thats why Ford did it. :notnice:

I have seen in the past, some kits to convert to stud mount but the whole deal was kinda Mickey Mouse as the stud was so tiny ... IIRC 5/16. Anyway, just not strong enough for a serious effort.

For iron heads, I still say this if you are gonna only be using them for a while

Don't buy new rr's for them cause they are gonna be peds and I can't see the sense in moving those rr's to a nice flowing Aluminum head when you go to the next level. Just use the stock rockers and don't take the hit in the wallet when you sell the iron heads. As for the gain from rr's ...... give me a break ..... 5 hp or less ...... Just don't make sense to me!

It would take a good bit of $$$ to do studs correctly on Ford OEM heads. :(

I'll never change my mind about sinking money into iron heads :nono:

grady, i will be keeping the iron heads for a long time...although i'm not going to put the money into them for stud mounts, i'll just get some 1.7's and be done with it. Thanks for the info

HA ...... HA ...... HA :rlaugh:

I said that once upon a time about a set of self poted E7's I now got just laying around in the garage :D

"and be done with it"

That was exactaly what I said when I was porting the E7's :D

Lets tell the truth about what we ALL want from our combos ...........

 just a little more
