i have a 64.5 mustang coupe. it has a 289. i was wondering what i could do to boost the hp. i wanted to buy a 351w and fix that up, but its probably a waste of $. i dont need it to be all super fast, but i would like to have more power. also trying not to spend a bunch of money. but i will if its worth it. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is it a 2 or 4 bbl.? the best mod you can do if it is a 2 bbl. is to let it breathe alittle. Next after that is headers and a cam. If you did all three you'd be in pretty good shape, and not out too much money.

you couls get rid of you 2.73 gears and go to 3.55's - it doesn't add hp but it is a good improvement and will be faster.

Suggestions:

* ~600 CFM vac secondary carb
* 4bbl dual-plane intake (F4B or equivalent)
* change rear gears to 3.25 - 3.55
* shift kit in C4, if auto-equipped
* dual exhaust, 2.25" pipe with H or X-pipe
* Tri-Y headers

These will make a significant difference, and wont break the bank. When you get bored with this level of performance, you can consider a cam, heads, and your budget
