How do you tell the difference between a 1970 Mach I 429 Cobra Jet and a 429 Super Cobra Jet. Where are the engine codes on the block and which code = which block??

1970 Mach I's didn't come with 429's, they had 428's.

The engine code should be an R code for the 428 Ram Air. The non-ram air was a Q code. The Super Cobra Jet package was the 428 Ram Air engine with the Drag Pack option which included the Shaker scoop, 3:91 or 4.30 gears, and an engine oil cooler.

+1. I owned a 1970 Mach 1 Drag Pack car w/3.91 gears and a top loader 4spd. Bad ass car for its day, but in the real world my 2003 Mach 1 would eat its lunch!
