Hey everyone, don't know too much about the lower end. I have a ProCharger P1SC and was wondering if I would be able to just change out the lower end with a forged crankshaft, upgraded pistons and upgraded h-beam rods. Would that be enough to make 500-550 hp or would I need to upgrade the whole shortblock. There's package deals for the rotating assemblies around $1400. Much cheaper than a short block. I'm noob in this area so please take it easy on my. Thanks.

forged crank with forged rods and pistons should be fine. the block itself is strong.

yeah, the stock block will take plenty of abuse, its just your glassy internals you ll have to worry about. forge the internals and you should be fine

you have to consider the cost of labor unless you can do it yourself.

you'll be fine with what you're looking at. Make sure the internals you're getting are all forged (as stated above).

Just as an FYI, I was going to be running 800 FWHP and my block was going to be just fine (according to VT).

what you're not factoring in is labor. you do not want to assemble a shortblock by yourself unless you are very experienced in it. have a reputable shop do it. it sounds like the kit you are talking about for $1400 does not include bearings and piston rings. plus, you'll need to have the block honed .020" over on the bore to make the pistons fit and balance the whole thing.

a professionally built shortblock is going to cost around $3200 and be able to withstand much more than 550hp.

What he said. A professionally built shortblock will be worth the difference in price. You may also want to consider an aluminum block for weight reduction. That's what I did with my last build. Modular Powerhouse can assemble a nice shortblock for you.

thats true.. i was thinking more on the lines of what is needed i did not factor in any skill of whoever is doing the work or labor cost..

the best way too go for a whole new motor is to get a VT shortblock or one from another reputable engine shop.

ya doing build your self can be fun. i know i had alot of fun when i built my old 4A-GE engine for my old MR2. But without good knowlege, and experience, you might just want to get already built by proffisional short block. it'll save you many bucks down the road, and don't ask me now i know

Thanks for the input guys. I wasn't planning on doing the install myself, my luck I'd make it worse. I'm headed back home from Germany to Atlanta in a few months and I'm going to get everything done at ModularPowerhouse, i.e. charger, gears, axles, fuel pump, subframes and clutch and was maybe thinking about doing the rotating assembly while I'm there. I found some prices below that were pretty good. I hear nothing but good things from the companies. I know to stay away from CHP, not to many good feedbacks on them. Anyone have any idea on how much this would be to get installed?

In that case, definitely let Modular Powerhouse build you a shortblock. Do not buy a rotating assembly and take it to them for the install. MPH has suppliers and connections and can get everything you need and it will be better than any rotating assembly you can purchase from SHM or anywhere else.

Guess I'll have to wait a little longer then for the lower end to be built up. I'll stick around the 400 hp range until I can't take it anymore and cave in with money or no money.
