Hey,

I've pretty much exhauted the bolt-ons...is it time for a supercharger? Help me decide. Are you running one on your 96-98 Cobra without problems? Do you regret it? Any info would help...please post:shrug:

You're in the same boat as me, brother.

I'd boost but one one detonation and bye bye pistons.

I'm looking into a rebuild, or maybe a cheaper path with a
different motor.

Dual cams seems to mean double cost for damn near everything.

I've got about 15k miles on my sq-trim, no problems. 434/377 on a mustang dyno. I have a good, safe tune. and believe I am pushing it if you want it reliable.

98 saleen, you're running 15lbs w/ 42's and making 650rwhp on the stock bottom end? Amazing.

ABSOLUTELY!!!! Supercharge it!!! I did mine March of 2004. It is now March 2007, and I do not regret it one bit!! The first time I drove the car, it put a smile on my face that I still get when I drive it now!! I did not care about the cost.

I have 12,000 supercharged miles with no problems, and I have never been back to Alternative for a retune of any other issues...Lidio is a great Mustang tuner. I can beat just about any car I race, and I still can go on long trips without worry.

I am currently running 8lbs of boost. I would like to have him install the methanol injectio kit and up the boost to 12-14lbs. 500+RWHP will be on tap after that kit.
:D

I have a vortech on my 96 cobra, it has 100k miles on it with the supercharger. About every 50k miles its has to be rebuilt, i'm just about to pull the engine in about a week to rebuild it for the second time. This time i'm gonna put upgraded pistons and rings in it to see if i can get it to last longer than 50K miles.

Superchargers make a big difference between a stock cobra and supercharged cobra, i love mine but in the long run it could cost you alot.

My answer is abviously yes, do it. However this is a rather large investment. I posed the same question and found that the best answer was to buy an '03-'04 Cobra with the full setup including injectors and SC already set to go and run. Not that putting a SC on it wont be absolutley awesome, you may want to consider if you are going to sell it in the near term or hang onto it for a long time. If you sell it soon, you will be lucky to recover 40%. My advice would be to invest the money and put it in/towards a newer snake. But if you plan on keeping it forever it would be worth it to do it. I have my 98 for sale currently. I had the same question and the cash to do it, but found that I am glad I didn't. But of course hindsight is 20/20. I did have a guy interested in my 98 because he had a KB to put on it and he was a supposed racer who owned 7 mustangs. He had told me that he wanted my 98 coupe because his 97 and 99 verts could not handle the KB. I want to be clear on the fact that I am not a mechanic or ASE techinician but his is what he told me. He may be full of crap but it is at least something to research when making duch a large investment. BTW the 03 is sick compared to the 98, although the price is too.
