im not sure if i am actually going to do this, my friend was telling me that i might be able to buy a centrifical type superchrger and put it on my mustang (1965 289). is this possible? i know there are superchargers made for the engine but i was looking to get around paying 5k. if its possible what is needed? i wouldnt put alot of boost, but just something to get a few extra hp. thanks.

There are two ways:
1) blow thru the carb (just about any SC can be adapted to do this)
2) "carb-in-a-box", done by Paxton/Vortec (a la the Shelby SC of the day)

Either will work, but some say (I have no dog in this fight - just what I've read) that the blow-thru is more difficult to dial in with respect to air/fuel ratio, while the "box" style is more amenable to getting consistent a/f ratios. Certainly, either way will work.

However, if you just want a few more ponies, you should consider stroking the motor to 331 or 347ci, which causes you to remove and rebuild the motor, but is is, I think, easier to maintain that a SC motor.

I am installing a Demon blow thru carb. on mine as the vac. secondary carbs will not work when your boost hits. It is also not safe to run a normal carb as it will leak gas and that is a no no. I bought a centrifical blower as I have all the parts to eventually F.I. it but so far it has worked great. If you want more info I'll do my best to help out so send me a message. Here is the Carb I just bought....The guy will even take payments!

Yea, I agree with SoCalCruising on the tuning part. If you want a turn key no non sense combo a blow thru set up is NOT it. And if you are going to do this you need to invest in an air/fuel meter. But I'm one who loves to tinker and adjust so this has been great so far. Also keep in mind you will have to upgrade the fuel system with addition of a boost refernced regulator.
