Supercharging the Daily Driver...or Nitrous?

OK. I can't argue with that.

You know, if you want blower power, maybe the best thing to do is to trade the GT in on a Snake. Not only do you get more HP, but a lot of upgraded things as well and all fore an added investment close to what the blower costs (I am speaking of buying a used Snake of course).

Also, a blower on a 99+ Snake is supposed to be there...it came stock. It's a much better investment (ie - you loose less money) then purchasing a blower for a car that came without one. This is the #1 reason why I will never add a blower.

.

Not sure if I agree that buying a 03/04cobra (stock blower) is a better "investment" than installing a blower on a GT. A used 2003 cobra is probably going to run $29,000. If you sell the car in 2 years, it would likely depreciate by $6,000 to $ 7,000. The cobra is a great car, but Auto Companies will continue to build cars which will entice consumers to new product which depreciates used cars.

Buy a used 2003 GT for $ 19,000. Buy a super charger for $4,000. After two years, remove the supercharger sells the GT for $14,000. Then, sell the super charger for $2,000 on ebay and you have a net loss of $7,000. Obviously, these numbers are not a 100% correct, but the point is, you will lose about the same amount of money.

In fact, once loan interest and car insurance is factored, I think putting a blower on a GT may be a better “investment”.

Thanks. So used to saying 99+.

Didn't SVT take a year off during one of those years? Was it 99 and then they had a lot of screw ups in '00, so they stopped. I need to check my Mustang book.
you're right

they did screw up on the 99's (unported intakes, wrong mufflers) but i don't see why they didn't make an 00 cobra because of it

as for the original topic, it seems like nitrous would be a better choice for you. a dry 75-100 shot seems like it would be easy to install and use, and alot cheaper. i don't have much experience with either so my thoughts really don't matter :nice:

They technically did make a cobra in 00. The Cobra R. I think the R model and the fix was the main reason we saw no regular cobra.

<----Daily driver that never has to stop to get his S/C refilled. :nice:

I drive my car like it's a normal car and I'm able to withhold beating the chit out of my vehicle at every stop light. It's all about self-control.....

At some point in the near future, I'd like to play around with adding more power to my 2000 GT vert. All I have is 3.73 gears and exhaust for the time being.

My issue is, I don't want to sacrifice much, maybe even any, of the daily driveability of the car. Some of the things in mind are gas mileage (I get about 275 miles to a 13 gallon fill now, and thats expensive enough for me), or reliability issues. I put 25,000 miles a year on the car. I know you can "safely" supercharge the car, but I just don't want to deal with any of the little issues that I'm guessing arise, once you change to a supercharged setup. I have a feeling its going to turn into too much of a project car I'm playing with things all the time on.

The other option is just using Nitrous. I really only want to add potential power to the car, so that if I'm at the track in the summer I can try to run some decent times. I don't street race or anything, so I'm not concerned with having power on tap at all times. I won't be getting a remote bottle opener or any of that stuff, probably just the regular base NX kit, and self install it.

Anyway, I'm curious what your guys opinions of this are, and what you view as the major differences between the two. People definately favor superchargers on this site, but for my own personal needs, I'm leaning heavily to just throwing a tank in the car. I also have a great source to get bottles filled, so thats another small benefit to the equation.

I told you foo, get the NAAAWWWWWWZZZ so I can have your heads when you blow the engine and go 4-valve. :jester:

I've had my S/C on for about 6 months now. Don't think that you will be always messing with it. In six months, I have not had to "tinker" with it once. Just follow regular maint. on the car. Replace the belt when it needs replacing. Just be sure to have it installed correctly and professionally tuned.

When you want that power you don't have to worry about what gas you have in the car or weather you filled the bottle up. It just works.

I drove the car like a frigging mainiac for a few months, then I calmed down and it's probably not even in boost 1/2 the time. If you go Nawz you will be refilling that bottle what, like twice a week? What a PITA!!!

NAWWWZZZzzz

Supercharger yields greater performance which is great if you don't drive it often (long daily commutes), but with the current gas prices HAVING to fill up with Premium would blow.

$500 for NAWz, $200 for gears.

Low 13s.

Do it.

The fact that Nitrous is cheap is a bit of a misconception. Yes, the base kit is cheap, but you'll also NEED a blow down tube, fuel pressure and rpm safety switches, bottle heater, and pressure gauge (at least at the bottle). Then, if you want to get the most out of it while not losing power N/A, you'll want a purge kit and flip chip tune.

Yes, you can go buy a $500 kit and install it and run. But without consistent pressure and the proper switches, it won't run NEARLY as well or as safely as it should.

That said, I'm another supercharged guy voting for nitrous. Just make sure you do it right. Don't take shortcuts, that causes problems down the road. Trust me, I've been there.
