Hey guys...my 90 stang runs good other than this surging problem i have...but its not at idle...Most of my engine is new.....but not everything..
but anyway..When I start it up it runs great..even after sitting for days..its an auto by the way. When its cold I can shift it into whatever and its fine..
this is only happens when the car is good and warm , or i stop and start it alot going from place to place. When i pull it into drive, the car almost stalls and i have to give it gas to keep it going for a sec..then its fine.. it will rev up and down a couple times like its surging and ready to stall. Also will do it if i go from drive to reverse quick too..what do u think it is? tranny fluid is fine..

Just a guess, but I would check the TV cable. I was fooling w/ mine last night when it was warm, and I adjusted it very harshly, and when I tried to shift into D, it died. Took it down a few, and it was fine...
Try it I guess!!

See the Sticky "Help me create the "Surging Idle Checklist" at the top of the forum for help in solving your problem.

:damnit: Now I have to subscribe...
I jst had to go adjust my shift linkage and re-adjust my TV cable cuz it was still too hard, and then I got that whole surging/almost dying thing when I shifted into D. It only happene that one time, but enough to wonder what caused it.
But yes, last night I made it looser andthat stall stopped, but todayI made it even looser (basically stock specs) and it still did a littl surge.
Anyone else w/ ideas?

I'm starting to think it's not an AOD problem, since it happens when stopping then starting right away. I just replaced my ECT sensor cuz my car was surging/stalling after warm start-ups. It did it once again today, though, even w/ the new ECT sensor. I'm wondering if it could still be related to that, ro electrical connections, as I ID ut di-elec. grease ON the contacts, and you're not supposed to (oops!)
Later, I'm going to tkae off the grease and clean the contacts and see how it is.

This may sound really stupid, I know most of the 5.0 abreviations but what is the tv cable?

TV cable is on AOD trannys only..Its a cable that goes into your tranny and gets adjusted to a certain PSI. (tranny pressure). You can adjust the pressure of the cable , since it is hooked under the throttle body, sharing the throttle cable on the other side under the butterly. If its not adjusted correctly and it is way off, it could burn out your aod completely

"throttle valve" cable, it attaches to the eunderside of the TB w/ the accelerator cable and controls when the AOD downshifts according to throttle -position related fluid pressure
