Suspension help please

I went to Chicane Sport Tuning and Joe there recommended me get H&R springs, Bill Stein shocks/struts, caster/camber plates, and alignment, all for $1500. I don't have much to spend on suspension, but that's what Joe@Chicane recommends. I trust his judgement but I'm looking to spend a little less money. Do any of you guys know any good suspension setup that is cheaper? I hope to not use caster/camber plates if necessary. Any suggestions on something that has good ride quality and some sportiness to it?

If you want to go cheaper and still get a good ride then this is what I would suggest.

Ford C springs $140 http://www.mustangtuning.com/forac.html

Tokico Premium performance struts $326 a set (4 ) http://www.maximummotorsports.com/tokico.asp#PP

MM Caster Camber Plates $200 http://www.maximummotorsports.com/cc.asp

Control Arms http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7985335396&category=33583&rd=1 Granatelli makes decent stuff and these are on E-bay fairly frequently for $150 buy it now price.

So. You're looking at Roughly $750 for parts and then about $85 for an alignment

So, roughly $850 if you do the work yourself.


This is just stuff off of the top of my head so you might even be able to find this stuff cheaper if you do some searching and look for rebates.

with a Saleen Body Kit you may not want anthing much lower than 1.5 inches SO the Eibach Pro Kit, H&R Sports, and the Ford B or C, or Steeda Sport Springs will work, Pick your choice depending on how much stiffer you want you ride to be compared to stock.. I dont care what anyone says also but bilsteins are too stiff with regular <800 lb springs.

1.5" front and .75" the rear. Yeah, it'll give you a big rake so you might have to cut the rear springs a little.

If you're not planning to autocross, the Bullitt suspension would be a cheap alternative.

Holy hell!

H&R springs = $200
struts/shocks = couple hundred maybe, any good heavy duty stuff for an 87-93 mustang (1" shorter for the lowering)
you wont need c/c plates, its a myth. all you need is 'camber bolts', my alignment guy gave them to me for free and otherwise theyre like 8 bucks.


did he want $600 to install that junk? christ almighty. suspension work is easy if your mechanically inclined and you really cant screw it up if you follow directions. he's trying to rape you.

well the Bilstein shocks and struts together are $629 (Maximum Motorsports). H&R Super Sports would be around $220, caster/camber plates would be $199, and labor is $245 for 3.5 hours of labor. $49 for alignment.

Do you have to have CC's maybe not but if you figure on that cost to begin with (I did even though now I don't need them) you'll be ahead of the game. Also if you shop around ie on the sale boards here, ebay, local boards you may be able to peice it together cheaper. If you can/will do the work yourself you can save some $$. But if you trust the shop and they are good save up and go there. BTW if you do it yourself, and don't do shocks/ struts at same time just unbolt the 2 bolts at the bottom of the strut is quicker easier and less chance of damaging yourself or car.

Bullitt Suspension $400 and MM Strut Tower Brace $135 on StangSuspension

FRPP Handling Kit $410 and FRPP Strut Tower Brace $110 on Summit

That's $520-535 for 4 Springs, 2 Shocks/2 Struts, 2 Sway Bars, and 1 Strut Tower Brace. It may not be a great road race suspension set-up, but for a good street ride it should be more than fine.

What is your motivation for the suspension upgrades; appearance, handling, "cool factor", or all three? Which of these results will bring you the most satisfaction? Do you belong to a club whereby you can drive a car that has been similarly modified (it might not feel like you expect at all)?

If you just want to lower the car for looks, your body kit already makes it look lower than stock. Bigger tires would fill the wheelwells, further contributing to the appearance of a lower stance.

I bought Bilstein struts and shocks for around $469 on ebay a couple of months ago. Just do a search on Bilstein and you find a dealer named tec deals or something like that.
