So I've got a 03-04 Cobra gauge cluster coming in this week and I wanted to know if the speedometer will read correctly after I take it to the Ford dealer. I've tried doing google searoches and have found nothing. This is going into a 2001 GT.

You will have issues with the PATS system, Speedometer, Odometer.

Without the pats system worked out first you will not be able to start the car. The other 2 issues you can drive the car with but these 2 items will be off.

The pats system is why im going to ford. Told the tech I had a new cluster coming in and if they could make it work with my pats and they said yes.. I would assume that once the car sees that the cluster is different it should calibrate ..

If you have a handheld tuner, and you will need a dyno tuner to do it but im pretty sure you can turn off the pats system with a dyno tune it will work i believe

Having read a number of cluster swap threads, I am an internet expert (LOL). Actually, that's a bit of a disclaimer since my old car ('98) had a much different cluster than your car. But, here's some food for thought.

Swapping over the circuit board(s) is all that is required, isn't it? The PATS stuff is stored in the "brain" in the instrument cluster board. You should not need to have the PCM flashed for PATS for the SVT cluster swap.

Swapping the circuit board WILL NOT work. This is the cluster from the '03-'04 Cobra. This cluster lacks the "battery" gauge, and was replaced with a "boost" gauge. The PATS isn't the problem seeing as the dealer can flash the cluster to work (or I could disable the PATS via SCT ) the only issue I'm curious about is the calibration of the speedometer. (GT is a 150mph and SVT is 160mph) I know this isn't new territory so someone knows what needs to be done.

Lol my old thread! Yeah it can be done but I wasn't sure how it would mess with my tune from a sct tuner. I ended up at first using the back portion off my gt cluster and the cobra front with correcting the speedo and odometer being off with the tuner telling it I had bigger tires than I did.

After a while though I had them turn off the pats system in order to just use the complete cobra setup and swapped the backs again.

I believe I heard from the previous guy I got my cluster from you can have a locksmith program it too do that may be something to check on before going straight to the dealership.

You're saying that with the complete Cobra cluster, all you had to do was turn off the PATS (or in my case, make the cluster match the pats) and the cluster functioned properly? The speedo read correctly?

I remember it was reading correctly or very close. I only had it this way a few months before I sold the car but I don't remember having any major issues with it. I never had it tested from the police or other source before I sold it so I can't say with 100% certainty.

Wow what a royal pain in the ass. Is there any particular reason why you're so intent on having a Cobra cluster in your car? There are aftermarket GT gauge clusters that look almost identical to Cobra clusters......but without the ridiculous headache

This particular cluster is important because it was my brothers, it came out of his 03 SVT. The one that he was driving when he was hit by a drunk driver and killed. I'm building my car in his memory and the SVT cluster is a big part of that. I have his hood, his cluster, and his OEM wheels. This car will be a tribute clone. I'm not worried about whether or not it will be financially worth it or not, it goes beyond that.

Sorry to hear your loss man. It's a pretty cool tribute though that you are doing. If you need any other advice post up and the Stangnet clan are more than happy to help however we can!
