Consider that the odds of getting a noisy rear end installation increase when the ring and pinion have already worn to each other and then are moved to a different set up. Note, it may be perfectly fine reusing a ring and pinon from another rear end just bear in mind this does increase the odds of getting a noisy job.

Consider that a new ring and pinion is not all that expensive. Here's an example that only $166. Add a full rebuild kit for $100 and this will give you a ZERO mile rear end with new gears. Sell the old ring and pinion after the swap out has been done.

An option is to search car-part.com for a used Ford 8.8 from a local salvage yard. The replacement does not have to come from a Mustang as the ring and pinion gears are interchangeable. Just have to double check the gear ratio tag. It will be necessary to disassemble to get the parts out.
