I always thought it was illegal under emissions to put a motor in the car other than what the vin says should be there. I also heard that is federal law for street vehicles, but I doubt that much.

Pass emissions with a carb on a Mustang made in 90? Not in this lifetime.

You'll never get the HC emission levels down to the same ones as the original EFI system.

Hey JR... what about with one of those bolt on throttle body/fuel injection kits you see in summit or jegs? Any chance with one of those?

Yeah, anyone know of passing with EFI on a 351????? I would guess that would be possible....

HC is the problem then.... Thx... You get 2 test attempts iirc, I may give it a shot to see what the machine registers. I will have to see what the test says the first time. I don't think swapping motors (vin issue) is a problem for me at all. The Carb would be covered if/when I do the test with a fabbed 'intake' to pass visual if they stickle me on that.

I may do efi sometime, or transplant the 5 back in for the annual test (*siiiiiiiiiiigh*), or even register the car upstate NY where you can apparantly drive any frigging thing you want as long as it runs.

I dont know about other states, but in CA you can only use an engine out of a car the same year or newer as the one its going into. Also, it has to be the same type, ie passenger car, truck, commercial. A 460 will never be legal for a pollution-controlled Mustang since they all came in trucks.

A 351W is illegal for the same reasons, but it is easier to hide the fact that you have one since it looks so close to a 302.

Right, I am counting on the similar look, the visual inspection here is not so bad. They want the car to pass and get you out of the shop as fast as they can b/c they have to bring in as many as possible to profit. They don't really check the VIN on the block or anything.... the PCM in these cars doesn't read VIN's right???? Just comes coded with the VIN?????

I would be able to fab and intake to cover the carb, so we will have to see if I can get it to pass!!!!
