Hey guys. I have a 98 GT that I love but have been throwing some ideas around about getting some more power out of it. My uncle is a former mechanic so he may be of some assistance but I was wondering what all I would have to do to swap a 5.slow into my GT.

My guess is that I need to get motor mounts and Wiring harness out of a 94-95 GT.
Then I would also need a T-5 transmission.

I am wondering if I will have trouble with using a carb setup on the 302 as opposed to EFI. Also, would everything line up if I used the fox body 302 and T-5 with the 94-95 mounts or would my shifter not mount up or whatever. And could I use the 94-95 exhaust on a 79-93 motor or would I have to custom fab up some manifolds and crap? Thanks.

For less money then the swap why not just buy used Pi parts and new cams?
And some gears.

no trouble with a carb setup. everything will line up. just make sure you have an sn95 T5 and bell. input shaft and bell are about 1/4" longer. exhaust will work too. all 302 blocks 79-95 are the same. all parts are interchangable. only difference between a fox 302 and an sn95 302 is the upper intake, valve covers and i believe headers. but fox parts will still work.

just sell it and buy a 94-95 gt.. the 98 gt is a hybird year between 96-97s and 99+. Your A) tearing apart a good car that would be plenty quick, just like mine, with the right mods and B) your swapping in a motor that comes stock in a 94-95.. i dont see the point.

My 98's fairly quick, i cut good times for what it is, stock motor and all. And i've beaten every 5.0 i've come up to the light at the track against. Even beat a 32v mark viii car. With exhaust, gears, and a shift kit lol

I will probably just do the Heads and cams and intake for now. I like the 302 better but I like my car too much to sell it for a 94-95. It is beautiful bright atlantic blue and its such an eyecatcher I love it.

If you doa 5.0L swap, it would be best to get a donor car and use everything. Peicing things together is a PITA.

bad92GT...i guess you just havent come across the right 5.0!!!!! Seriously a SN car is considerably heavier than a Fox and they dont have as much power from the factory and they are seriously lacking in the torque department. If you put the same mods you have on a 5.0...esp a carbed 5.0 in an SN body...it would walk away from you. Not to mention he plans on a 5 speed setup.

Dont get me wrong i love the 4.6L...just not a non-PI one. I agree he would be better off to throw PI heads, Intake, and Cams in there and basic bolt ons. But a non-PI 4.6 has a pretty low power plateau. Good looking...but not real big performers with the stock HCI.

302 in a 98GT, why? There are plenty of ways to make a mod motor fast. PI head swap, trickflow intake... Or a 32v swap, 5.4L 32v from a navigator etc... I think working on a 4.6 would be cheaper than having to swap out for a 5.0L figuring you'll need a k-member, an electronics expert or an autometer speedometer, etc... plus kill the value of the 98GT by going with a carb'd 302.

It would be cheaper and easier to do a PI-swap ot a 4.6L DOHC swap

Sn 5.0 vs Sn 4.6.. my car won.. his was a 5 speed with 3.73s.. mine was a automatic with 4.10s and actually, my car weighs only 3700.. look up the weight yourself lol im running a bone stock motor with exhaust gears and a shift kit.. running the same times a sn95 5.0 car does.. on street tires

Congratulations bro...you beat someone that can obviously not drive. What times do you run exactly. Only 3700#...thats pretty heavy in my book. My fox weighs 3150.

maybe he wants to do something unique, you dont get to see many 5.0's in a modular car...i'd love to see the progress thread too!, i've only ever seen one car like this and it's about 2 hours away from me. i say do it! lol

he beat an "SN5.0", so a 94-95??? Besides I don't think he meant he can beat any 5.0L out there on the planet. That wouldn't be the smartest thing to say.

Only 3700lbs he says

What kind of times does your "fairly quick" car run? To beat every 5.0 you have run means 1 of 3 things.

1. There are no worked 5.0's in your area.

2. You have not run that many of them, maybe 1or 2 total to date.

3. You are a fantastic driver, and your car is uber fast.

Most SN95 cars with manual 5.0L's I've seen at the track are in the high 14's low 15's... My cousin's does 15.2x with explorer intake, 3:08 and 5 speed... he's not the worst driver.

this is one of those things that ppl will never get over and insist that the 5.0 is so much better this and that, look at what you have to change to put a a 5.o in a 4.6 car,it is the most rediculous swap unless your starting with a shell.you have to change the kmember, the mounts, the trans, the crossmember and location of it,the entire wiring harness, the ecu,the exhaust for what,it really makes no sense at all.seriously just swap to a set of pi heads cam intake and with a tune and some gears you got a solid 13.4 car, trust me because i have one.im not favoring the 4.6 im just talking practically.i've heard multiple times when putting a new motor in my car,why dont you just put in a 5.0,i always say why,its just wouldnt make sense to buy all that stuff to swap to a stock 5.0 that will be slower than a pi swap.
