I dont know much about the switch chips. I was wondering if anyone has heard of someone having 1 setup on the chip for gas mileage and the other setup for power. seems you could get some really good mileage if the puter was set for it.

I have the 4 position chip, works great. I have several different tunes on it, and yes you can lean the a/f ratio out a bit, but I wouldn't lean it out very much as engines tend to cost more than fuel. My stock tune is about as lean as I want to go and I can flip it to that setting as I'm cruising down the highway.

I did have the SCT Programmer but traded it for a 4 Position Chip from SCT with another guy I met at MD. They are both at MD now getting the programs chaged.

I went with the chip as I got tired of changing the tunes with nitrous.

Question: Can you change the tunes on the fly? Or, do you need to restart the car?

No. The we are ferring to the 4 position chip by SCT. It runs $325. I had that same Diablo chip and sent it back. The tune was screwed up and they could not get it right.

The instructions that came with the 4 position chip says: The switch chips can be switched between the various settings 'on the fly' with the engine running.
I wasn't sure if that also ment the stock setting aswell, so I e-mailed MD with the question, within 10 min. they sent this reply:
>Glad to hear that it finally arrived. You are fine to switch it on the

That is awesome. You could not do that with the Diablo I had. You know if the car is tuned for gears, you be able to see the speedo change if you have gears while you are driving, right?

I have a 3 position Diablo chip. I was told it was best to shut the car off and then switch it but I've tested it several times and it works fine switching on the fly.

On your car yes, but not on mine as I would need a speedcal to recalibrate the speedo. The EEC does not have the capability to change the speedo on the older Stangs.

You can switch it, but the tune does not change unless you restart the car....at least that was how mine worked.

My nitrous tune use to idle way low and usually caused my car to die if I didn't keep my foot on the pedal. I'd swap my tunes on the fly and I could always tell by my idle. I've updated my chip and have a much better tune and can't tell a difference now. I've sprayed it a couple of times on the fly and all has been well. However, I now shut off my car just in case, lol.
