Switch from 3.73 to 2.73 because to much torq

That is a simple one. The more torque you can put to the ground the faster the car will get moving and the faster your 0-60 time will be. But traction is really key to this so with too much torque you will just spin and kill 0-60 times. Take my car for example, at the track on slicks the 0-60 time is in the 3sec range but it increases by another second on the street because if I take off too hard it just blows the tires off. You could run a higher gear in a car that makes lots of torque but a lower gear is going to make it even more fun. With 3.73 gears a car can get to 160+ if the motor can take it that far and for me that is fast enough. Sure a car with higher gears could go higher speeds but I will get there much faster and to me that is a lot more fun. Horsepower is ok but there is nothing better than a V-8 with ass loads of torque and the lower the gear the more you get to the ground.

A higher gear you mean? Higher gears are numerically lower (i.e. 3.73's are lower than 2.73's).

Trans gears have a lot to do with speeds too. You have to have the right gears in the box, before you start selecting a gear for the rear. To go 0-60 in a T5 Mustang with the 2.95 First gear, you would need something like a 1.73 in the rear. The car probably wouldn't be able to accelerate at all in 4th and 5th gear.

I think the thing with the GT40 is that it's blower gives it alot of low end torque which is why it can pull through the lower rpms really quickly. And what Joes95GT said. . .

My car with the stock 2.73 gear only gets up to about 45 in 1st gear, so yeah you'd need like a 1.73 gear. But I do see your point. If you have a TON of torque from the engine, you don't necessarily need a lower gear to improve the torque put down at the wheels. Still, with 3.73 or 4.10 gears and some slicks and a good suspension setup on a well-prepped track, I'm sure you can rip off even faster 0-60mph times than with a higher gear - it's all in the 1-2 shift.

Still it'd be insane to have 700+hp and 700+lbft in a car with high gearing. You could go like 240mph lol. I think it'd be harder to go from a stop though. It'd be like starting in 3rd gear all the time...
