Stang has 80k miles on it. Would it be better to stay with regular oil, go with a synthetic blend, or a full synthetic? Also for a manual trans., what should i go with? If i did switch to a synthetic blend or a full synthetic what would be advantages and/or disadvantages? thanks

go ahead and make the switch, all the myths you hear about synthetics causing leaks are just that MYTHS, I am a big fan of Royal Purple, IMHO I wouldnt mess with the blended oils.

I am assuming you have a T5, and if so, it requires an ATF type lubricant fluid such as GM's Syncromesh (a popular choice for T5 owners on this site). Royal Purple makes a version called Syncromax, and Pennzoil's version is the same as GM's, because Pennzoil designed and formulated it for the General. The Pennzoil is cheaper than GM's of course. The Royal Purple I got online for $5-6 a quart. As far as the engine goes, synthetic is great, I run 10w30 Mobil1 in mine.

AMSOIL fan. yes some synthictics can cause leaks (that doesnt mean syn. are bad) becuase they are cleaning your engine BETTER. regular oils usually build up on seals, gaskets, etc. as the oil breaks down and gets old. syn oils are smaller in molicules and can go into the smallest places.

blended are a waste of money

synthetics will show you leaks, not create them.

it is all a personal choice. if you want, give it a shot. if you drive the car in the winter up in Michigan, i would actually run the synthetic in the winter and play it by ear in your 'mild' seasons.

Redline D4 is good stuff for the tranny. I am not a fan of running Synchromesh in T5's, but that is just me.

good luck.

Synth Oil

FYI:
I have a 93 triple black vert with 93k.
Lots of mods. 392 RWHP
I work for a major US Oil Co. in Operations. (FCC for anyone who cares)
I was suspect about switching to synth. The lab guys told me it would strip all the old coke and carbon in the system. Synth. has no hydrocarbons and certainly did a number on the BOSS.
After 1K miles of Mobil Synth , I replaced the Main seal and Oil Pan gasket .
That was a lot of manhours!!!!!!
Your choice!
I am glad I made the change. I want my 93 to run forever.

Regards'
