LOL @ the "expensive oil" comment.

Full synthetics > blended synthetics > dino oils (regular crap -LOL)

I run Mobil 1, because it's always stocked on the shelves & is an affordable full-synthetic (why pay gobs more for another full synthetic oil? - that's my opinion & preference).

Has anyone tried any of the red line products. Gear oil or A/T fluid. Also what kind of oil filter are you using with your synthetic.

COBRA90GT, I agree. Mobil 1 is very good, and as far as Synthetics go, reasonable and easy to find. It's factory fill for Cobras, 'Vettes, Vipers and Porches so I guess it will be OK for my GT. Filter? Motorcraft or PUROLATOR Pure One.
I use Redline gear oil in the rear end and Redline D4 ATF in the tranny. Water wetter in the rad.

Ditto what Golden Pony said. You can't go wrong with Mobile 1. Its been around the longest, has a proven racing history, and the cars coming off of the assembly line with it are a testiment to its quality. As far as filters, I know the FL1A was once filled with recycled cotton instead of a paper element (10 yrs ago).....they may have gone to corragated paper like the rest now, but still an excellent filter. You are going to change it so frequently, it will never be used up when you take it off anyway.

I think some of the more expensive oils don't break down as quickly and have some intereting flavors but the thing you have to remeber is do you need better? How often do you change your oil and how often are you willing to let your oil go? are you willing to have your oil analyzed?

are you the kind of person who is going to send you oil out to be anylyzed and let it stay in your car 15k, 20k then run the ams.

I am not. I change my oil ever 7,500 miles. so for me paying for something like AMS is overkill. just more money.

I get mobil 1 for about $4 a quart. I know it is good for 7,500 miles.

if you are running ams oil and changing your oil ever 3k or even 5k you are pissing money down the drain.

I have been very suprised in the past at the lack of technical knowledge out there when it comes to motor oil. proably before the end of this thread someone will post in how they run ams and still change thier oil every 3k and they think there is some advantage to that.

I just bought my 99 GT and it has dino oil in it right now. It sounds like Mobil 1 is the oil of choice. Can I just drain the oil and pour in the Mobil 1 if that is what I decide on. Is it a problem to go from dino oil to straight synthetic.

Thanks for the help

5W 20 oil is no good! no one should use it accept maby for the first 3000 miles for break in of a new engine. 5W 30 should be the oil of choice for all application synthetic or dino.
