When would you recommend putting it in if at all? At the first oil change of 3,000 miles or right when you get? Or other?

I changed mine to Mobil 1 synthetic at 750 miles. I would not run anything but synthetic. Your car is worth it.

I've usually waited a little longer to go to full synthetic (longer 'break-in' time), but then I made that very first oil change before 3,000 miles, too. I've gone about 1,000 on original oil, changed the oil and put in manufacturer recommended, then changed to Mobil 1 at 3,000. Probably completely unecessary, but that's me.

MANY new cars come from the factory with synthetic oil.
Change it when you want or need.

I'm running AMSOIL, and have since 3K miles.
After extensive research I'm convinced the once per year oil change is for me.

Happy motoring!

I would argue that these motors can handle breakins with synthetics, due to improvements in technology (cylinder surface and ring interaction mostly).
I would change the oil immediately after first warm up to remove assembly lube, which is useless when it heats up. Then change the oil as often as is practical. Buy cheap oil for a while, and change it alot. There will be more oil degrading heat and friction in the motor until the rings are done seating. Also, there will be more blowby, which dilutes the oil with fuel, among other things. When the rings are fully seated, go for the synthetics.
