Hey everyone,

I'm on a budget build and I have a 4cyl T-5, to make this thing at least some what stronger until I can afford a tremec or somthing of the sort can I use an Input shaft from a 5.0 t-5 or would I end up having to swap out the entire gear set? I believe that all the 4cyl t-5's have a 3.97 first 2.34 second 1.46 thrid 1.00 fourth, 0.79 fifth.

thanks

You wil need to swap the whole gear set.
You will need a different pilot bearing to make the 4 cylinder T5 work. The pilot bearing you need is for a Ford Ranger diesel from AutoZone part #14672.

The 4 banger t5's can take more abuse than most think.
Make sure you get the right pilot bearing as JR mentioned, and run it as is... no point dumping even more money into a 'temporary' fix, just start saving up for a good trans.

Alright, thanks for the input.
I will have to take an AutoZone trip and pick up that pilot bearing.

I wasn't sure how much abuse a 4cyl t-5 could take, I didnt know if being behind a v8 the first time I dropped the clutch it would just rip itself apart or what.

It might not rip itself apart the first time but I wouldn't make it a habit. The 4cyl T5 will basically allow you to drive your stang around until you get the bettter trans, if you beat on it too much it will be sooner. I would just for the heck of it do a search on 4cyl T5 on here and maybe corral.net just to get some input from members who have run them to see the limits and what it takes to make them strong just for a little fyi.

some of the strongest trans ive had have been 4 bangers, they have held up fine behind all my abuse, and that incuded 2nd gear drops at 6k for burnouts on big tires, the gear ratios in them I like a lot better, 1-3rd are pretty much useless if you have some hp under the hood, but 4th is the same and 5th is a little lower (numerically higher)and acts like an extension of 4th, I rode around with mine at 70in 5th I was around 2300 but I had 3.08's..
