My thtowout bearing went out a couple of months ago, so I installed a king cobra clutch (with pilot and t.o. bearings). Well now my car makes a very slight squeal while driving slow, but it stops when I push in the clutch, and Im thinking it is a t.o.b. Anyone ever had problems with them going out this quick? I used the one with the kit, but will probably buy the heavy duty ford one this time.

Same crap here - I keep adjusting the firewall adjuster to take the squeal out of it...makes me love my stock clutch (in the 02) more and more!

actually , that is going to kill the TOB quicker. This is a common problem and I haven't seen a good fix yet.

My KC clutch does the same thing, i just turn up the stereo or push the gas to drown it out, i was told if i kept adjusting it the tob would mess up.

Is there any danger to the clutch set up if the TOB is squealing? Mine does it just slightly with 38,000 on the stock clutch. If I apply even slight pressure to the pedal it goes away...Anyways, when i replace the clutch, the replacement will be the stock unit. It holds enough power, and the effort is fine on it.

Oh, I know, I know... either way, it'll die (I'll kill it one way or another). Some people have had luck with a can of spray white grease and two or three of the straws (that come with the cans) connected together (taped or heat shrink tubing wrapped) allows you to lube the TOB. I REALLY need to do this soon.

T.O.B noise

mine started doing the same thing, but one night it started ratteling then sounded like a cow bell was hanging on my tranny. I went under and hit the t.o and output shaft w grease, dabbed on with grease gun then spread around with my finger. that silenced it immediately and i noticed the pedal had a stronger and smoother feel to it. If the t.o. goes out you can tear up the clutch and the output shaft really bad, but just an occasional greasing, every oil change or every other should do just fine.

Can you just use reg. grease? Or do you have to use lithium grease, as I've heard other say? Mine does it once the cars warmed, put pressure on the clutch pedal, it goes away. Mines been doing it since ~21k, now has ~24k.

I have used white lithium grease and some hightemp grease and never had a squealing problem You need to cover the entire TOB area that contacts the pressure plate and you need to grease the inside trac of the TOB that rides on the bearing retainer. Use it liberally...

Sorry for your troubles Justin Good Luck!

Well I finally did this today on the 01 after chging the oil. I used white lithium grease and duct taped 2 aerosol can straws together to get up onto and around the TOB. With a decent light shining up into the opening, it was pretty easy and IT WORKED beautifully!!! Zero squeak now...none at all.
I also solved a long time problem...a pesky rattle that announced itself at about 3500 RPMs. When taking the dust cover off, I noticed the seal was dry, detoriating...basically not functioning anymore. So I made a couple new strips of seal (using basic home style insulating foam - the kind with tape on one side). Another problem solved...it was a good day under the 01!
