Hi everyone, I'm in the middle of a rebuild of my T5 and I'm coming across a strange issue:

When the tailhousing is bolted to the case, and bearing retainer bolted on w/NO shims, I'm only reading .004" of endplay...seems waaaayyy too tight to me from everything I've read online/using the Tremec manuals. My smallest shim is .012", which is the minimum that Tremec specifies to use in conjunction w/other shims. I also had alot of drag turning the input shaft, but I believe I've diagnosed that down to the reverse brake synchro having some trash in it, so the measurements have been taken with the 5th drive gear out.

I've rechecked everything I can think of but I can't find why I seem to have such a tight clearance. All the gears except both 5ths are new (Astro upgraded 2.95 gearset, not A-5), bearings, synchros, etc are new from the 94 piece latemodelresto kit. I have made sure the 3-4 hub and input shaft bearing are both pressed all the way down.

Any help of things to look for would be great!

In bob Hanlons rebuild video, he says if it doesn't fit, take it back apart something isn't right. Don't force it together, little bit of crud can throw you off enough for this issue. I deal with these close tolerances every day at work... Being .0005 off in my trade can turn a good day bad quick. I would take it apart again and double check everything. The hanlon video is pretty nice for this project for 20$. I have watched the video several times. Have not rebuilt one yet, but after watching the video It looks kinda fun.

Yea I'm pretty much down to that point now, pulled everything back apart last night to see if anything obvious was binding up, etc. Haven't found anything yet, gonna try putting it back together and see what I get. Anyone know if the spiral lock can be reused?

No luck. Tore everything completely down, rebuilt and checked measurements again, but no change at all.
